Well, I guess I'll compare with Sweden. In both countries, you get surgery. In the US, you get a huge bill when you leave the hospital. Probably several tens of thousands of usd. In Sweden, you get a small bill when you leave the hospital. Probably like… 1500-ish crowns/about 150 usd if you were in the hospital for 2 weeks or longer.*. You might even just pay on your way out. And then you don't pay anything for the rehab or any other doctors visits for the next 12 months, related or not.
